Testimonials

“I just wanted to drop you a line to say a massive thank you for everything over the past week in Saas Grund.
You’ve inspired me so much, and I feel like I’ve really grown in confidence as a mountaineer. It was a great week, and yourself and Paul Farmer were truly amazing guides.” Louise, Saas 4000’ers 2009

“The week on the Matterhorn trip was amazing, although very intense so i think i have only just got back to normal now! Myself and David climbed with Tim for most of the week and being relative novices he definitely had his work cut out for him, but he was extremely patient, clear with instructions and took the time to teach us a lot during the course of the week. Overall despite the hard work and blisters I had an incredible and very enjoyable week” Anna, Matterhorn week 2009

“A fantastic week of ski touring, but with a lot more added by Tim Blakemore. Things like getting us to work as a team in the most realistic transceiver test I have ever encountered; and showing us some basic techniques for crevasse rescue (AND getting us all to enjoy trying these at one of the mountain huttes) – for me (with limited experience) these added enormously to the week. They gauged what was needed by the group to build for the future as well as giving us a really exciting weeks skiiing.” David Claridge – Silvretta Ski Tour 2009

“Many thanks for a really memorable week. You planned & guided great routes & peaks at exactly the right level for a desk-bound aspirant alpinist.
You showed great patience with my rusty alpinism and as a valued bonus were great company to be with. We had most interesting conversations ranging from Radio 4, Swiss wine, financial engineering through to the merits of assorted late night night-haunts. All highly recommended and am looking forward for some more next year where I will be older but probably neither wiser nor fitter” Ben Walmsley, private guiding in Switzerland 2010

“Thanks again for another astounding alpine episode, some fantastic climbing as usual” Nick O, Chamonix Winter Alpinism 2011

“Thanks for a great week – knackered but happy!! Fil a Plomb a great way to finish off.” Tim D Chamonix Winter Alpinism 2011

“Tim is a guide of integrity and fun, with a sense of adventure balanced with care. He pushed us to our limits for unforgettable memories and ski pleasure. I always had absolute confidence in Tim’s judgement, somehow taking us to the edge, but knowing our limits, and then delivering thrilling runs and great snow, making all the effort worthwhile. Thanks so much Tim for sharing your extraordinary world” Ian S Bernese Oberland Ski Tour 2011

“The trip was one of the best weeks of my life! I know we were all extremely grateful to be on a flexible and expertly crafted itinerary between Chamonix and Zermatt, and none of us will forget it in a long time. Thanks for being an inspirational guide and a good friend throughout.” Tom W Chamonix – Zermatt Haute Route 2011

“By creating a custom itinerary based on excellent knowledge and experience of the Swiss, French and Italian glacial Alpine terrain Tim made our Haute Route expedition a life changing trip. Knowing that the group was comprised of skiers rather than climbers or true mountaineers, Tim devised a route taking in the classic days, but maximising our downhill powder turns! All the hut accommodation was regimentally organised and even when forced to adapt due to weather conditions, alternative options were sourced and booked immediately. Every group decision, whether it concerned avalanche or crevasse danger, equipment strategy, route planning or risk assessment was openly and honestly discussed logically, which in addition to ensuring a stress free atmosphere increased the group’s experience and mountaineering navigational skill level. The group often felt that Tim’s decisions on skinning routes, navigation, and safety set a precedent for any other guides in the area; we often covered terrain more efficiently than other groups and always felt secure in the high alpine environment. This has to be the best way to experience world class glacial terrain, where the sheer scale of the mountains inspire reverence and awe. Thanks and see you next season.” Cam A Chamonix – Zermatt Haute Route

“Thanks for putting up with us on the Bernese Oberland Tour! We all thoroughly enjoyed your guiding. Have a great Summer and hope to tour again with you soon.” John F, Bernese Oberland Ski Tour 2011

“Despite my moans and groans, I look back on it with great pride and joy: What a fantastic experience!” Nick S, Gran Paradiso Haute Route 2011

“Just wanted to thank you for a fantastic week of climbing – I had an absolute blast and am really feeling the bump of reality having returned to my normal life, in flat surroundings at sea level. I’d like to compliment your choice of routes, you found us some great leads to push some boundaries and build good confidence and also gave us some great seconds to really push us hard! Choice of hotel in Cogne was outstanding, La Barme is a really great place – I really enjoyed the food and relaxed atmosphere, amazing for the price and location! I had a really fun week and laughed so much, it really did feel like I was on holiday with an old friend – really like your style! Hope to meet up with you again in the future for some more climbing…” Jon Ryall – Cogne Ice Climbing 2010

“Thank you for a great day out rock climbing. I could never have imagined climbing in such fantastic surroundings. Catrin had such a good time, I think you struck a perfect balance of challenge and fun. The photos of her atop Aiguillette dAgentiere have astounded her friends and teachers at school. I still cant actually believe that you managed to get me to climb up there too! The climbing, the scenery and the marmots will make it a day we will remember for a long time.” Tanya & Catrin, Chamonix Rock Climbing 2011

“We all successfully climbed to the summit of Island Peak on 10 April. I feel that we could not have achieved this without your training in the Alps last September. So thank you so much for this!” Gabriela, Greater Ranges Training 2011

“We spent Friday and Saturday skiing with you – we had a truly fantastic time! We had had mixed experiences with French and Italian guides previously but skiing with you was a totally different experience – you gauged our skill levels and gradually moved us along progressing all the time and it was both a great experience and great fun. We will definitely book you again. Thanks a lot!” John F – Chamonix Off Piste 2012

“Thanks for the GREAT Avalanche progression course Monday. Great realistic timed scenarios & due to your good planning/training – good skiing, too. Thanks!” Kathleen, Avalanche Progression Course 2012

“I just thought I should drop you a line to say how much I and my friends enjoyed our couple of days skiing with you in March in Chamonix. Your guiding was excellent and your help was most reassuring, and would encourage me to try more off piste and even may be more adventurous things with your expert assistance. I hope to be able to ski with you again soon.” Paul B Chamonix Off Piste 2012

“Tim has guided us on a number of occasions in both the Swiss and French Alps. Tim’s skill, knowledge, experience and passion for mountaineering are always evident and we both have really enjoyed the challenge as well as the support and leadership that he brings. Looking forward to more adventures with Tim in the future and would recommend him to others seeking a guide.” Alex Williams 2018

“I wanted to drop you a line to thank you for the fabulous day that Paul and I had in the Vallee Blanche. Your guiding was exemplary, but much more than that we thoroughly enjoyed your company too. We will never forget our experience. I look forward to meeting up again in the not too distant future.” Prof Tim Underwood PhD FRCS, Chamonix, 2019

“Now the dust has settled I wanted to write to thank you for a great trip. I know its your job but I think it is important that I share my thoughts and thanks following yet another wonderful and safe trip reaching impressive heights in both a climbing and levels of quality of experience and safety.
The group you put together had excellent dynamics, with zero negatives, enhancing the “three men on tour” experience of last year. We made new friends and I hope contact may continue between some or all of us even within the busy lives we all exist.
The itinerary was both enjoyable, challenging and ticked the most important two boxes of “off piste ski” and “gourmet food”. OK perhaps a critic would say not gourmet but in my mind the food was authentic, plentiful, tasty, and caused no digestive issues whatsoever, which for me in Africa is a definite achievement!
The location was culturally very interesting which added some real variety and enjoyment to the usual Alpine ski tour experience.
Anyway thanks again for keeping us safe and taking me outside my comfort zone, although actually a simple 4200m peak in Africa wasn’t really uncomfortable and still an achievement. Steve may have another perspective on that, but I know he shares my thanks and sentiment of this email.” Tim Bloch, Morocco 2019
